When Redditch was designated a “New Town” in 1964, it heralded 20 years of major development, particularly of the town centre, where many of the existing streets were demolished.
Also, to build new homes, factories, and community facilities, much of the immediate countryside around the town centre was also lost.

Prior to the New Town development, Redditch Borough Council documented leisure walks through this countryside.
Since the New Town development, many groups and individuals have documented more leisure walks, many to highlight the historic features of the Old Town still visible.
This gallery in the Redditch Virtual Museum presents as many of those walks that we can identify.
We must also highlight that the origins, and the interlectural property rights, of these walks are fully acknowledged to their creators. WE are just providing easy acces to this data.
